Its beautiful campus combines a gothic revival style main Quadrangle building with modern student amenities, classroom buildings and laboratories, and a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. University College Cork (UCC) is ranked in the top 2% of universities in the QS world university rankings.

There are many unique academic opportunities at UCC from business, economics, and science to traditional Irish dance and music, folklore, and literature. In the QS World University rankings by subject, UCC has ranked highly for Nursing, Agriculture and Forestry, Law, English Language and Literature, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and Medicine. In addition, UCC has been nationally ranked first among Irish universities for engineering (electrical and electronic) and environmental sciences. The Cork University Business School is one of the largest in Ireland and is dually accredited by the AACSB and AMBA professional bodies. There are many unique academic opportunities at UCC in a wide array of subject areas. Music is a particular strength and many Arcadia students take music courses at UCC in areas ranging from jazz to African and Asian music to traditional Irish music.

You’ll find over 80 societies and clubs to choose from and the indoor sports facility, the Mardyke Arena, has recently undergone a €16 million redevelopment and is now one of the leading indoor sports facilities in Ireland.

Academic Program
The program begins with a four-day orientation in Dublin, followed by a local orientation in Cork. University College Cork (UCC) assigns credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

For fall 2022/spring 2023:
Pomona awards 0.66 Pomona credits for 5 ECTS credits. A full course load at University College Cork is typically six courses each worth 5 ECTS and totaling 30 ECTS.
For fall 2023 onwards:
Pomona awards 0.625 Pomona credits for 5 ECTS credits. A full course load at University College Cork is typically six courses each worth 5 ECTS and totaling 30 ECTS (15 U.S. semester credits; 3.75 Pomona credits).

Students are required to take at least one, preferably two, 3000-level courses. Students should bear in mind that most 3000-level courses have prerequisites and admission to courses is contingent on approval from the relevant UCC department, based on the applicant’s background and experience.

During the fall program, Pomona students are required to enroll in the Early Start Pre-Session program. Students have the option to choose one of five courses, including Archaeology, History, Folklore, Literature or Music. Pomona students may not enroll in the Management and Marketing course. The intensive three-week course earns 5 U.S. semester credits (1.25 Pomona credits).

Students are required to take at least one course with significant Irish content. (The Early Semester Pre-Session program counts towards this requirement for the fall semester).

Pomona limits courses in dance or music to those with an academic component.

Students are not permitted to take any courses taught by the Arcadia study center on a CR/NC basis, however, students may take direct enrollment university courses on a CR/NC basis.
