IFSA - UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON PARTNERSHIP
London, United Kingdom
WHY STUDY IN CITY?
London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and one of the most popular study abroad destinations. A sophisticated city with endless cultural, historic, artistic, political, and intellectual offerings, it’s also home to many universities scattered throughout different neighborhoods. London’s excellent public transportation system will take you easily from your housing to classes and anywhere else you want to go. The city’s train stations, bus networks, and airports make traveling throughout the UK and Europe a snap.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
One of the world’s top 10 universities and the oldest member of Britain’s Russell Group, UCL is known for research-based teaching and true city living. Highlights include a vibrant arts scene—witness the annual opera production and highly competitive studio arts at The Slade—plus new programs in global citizenship and international health.
At UCL, your backyard is Bloomsbury, a leafy, central London district campus known for its Georgian architecture, museums, cafes, parks, and literary history. Oxford Street, Covent Garden, and the West End are also in easy reach.
Your program also includes IFSA excursions and activities (included, no extra fees) that give you deeper cultural insights. Possibilities include a West End theater performance, a session in the famous The Great British Bake Off tent, and exploring below ground with a former coal miner in Wales.

Academic Program
UCL is located in the heart of the Bloomsbury district in the center of London. Most attractions of London are within walking distance of the College: national art galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas, concert halls, opera houses, rock and jazz venues, the main shopping district in the West End, and a variety of cafes and restaurants. Students are fully integrated into academic life at UCL and are expected to attend courses exactly as British students do. This means attendance at lectures, seminars, tutorials, and labs associated with each course, and sitting the end-of-the-year examinations.
Students enroll in 16 U.S. semester credits (4 Pomona credits).
Students are required to take at least one course with significant British content.
Living Arrangements
Students will live in apartments or residence halls. All of UCL's housing is scattered throughout London and you should be prepared for a commute of 15 to 40 minutes by bus or tube to your classes.
Pomona College will cover the standard housing fees. IFSA will bill students directly for supplemental housing fees if students are placed in housing that has an additional fee. It is very important that you review IFSA’s and UCL’s housing information carefully and complete the housing form as soon as you receive the instructions. UCL assigns student housing on a first-come, first-served basis. All housing applications must be submitted by the deadline. It is the student’s responsibility to select UCL housing that fits into their budget. Do not list accommodation options outside your budget, as UCL has been known to place students in the most expensive housing option listed, even if it was their last choice.
Number of Students
Enrollment ranges from 25-45 students, depending on department availability and applicant pool. UCL enrollment is approximately 22,000 students.
