Intended for students with advanced French language skills, the School in Cameroon enables students to increase their language abilities through housing and interaction with native speakers. Whether spending time with house mates, in classes, or in the city, students use their language in a very real immersion environment.
As Cameroon's economic and political capital, Yaoundé is an ideal place for immersion into Francophone African life. Based at the Université Catholique de l'Afrique Centrale, with all classes conducted entirely in French, students at the Middlebury School in Cameroon will be able to take courses in several disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, with direct enrollment as an option for more advanced students of French.
Academic Program
Each semester, students will take two program courses at the Middlebury center that focus on culture, social sciences, language, and literature. These will be taught in French by local faculty. The Université catholique d’Afrique centrale enrolls 4,000 students. You’ll take intensive courses at the university for 4-6 weeks alongside Cameroonian students in the beginning of the semester, then take either two courses of 36 credit hours or three courses of 24 credit hours.
Students are required to take at least one course with significant focus on Cameroon.
Pomona students take the equivalent of 4.0 Middlebury credits for a total of 4.0 Pomona credits.
In addition to the academic program, the Middlebury program director and other staff lead a group trip. This is a great way for students to get to see village life in Cameroon under the guidance of local experts.
Students are also strongly encouraged to get involved in independent co-curricular activities.
Students may take one course at the Middlebury center per semester on a CR/NC basis. Students may also take direct enrollment university courses on a CR/NC basis.
Living Arrangements
Students live with local families and commute to the campus each day for class. Pomona provides a local transportation and meal allowance to cover lunches not included in the homestay.

Eligibility
Completion of an upper-division French course (100-level or higher), or the equivalent.
