Established in 1887, Pomona College is a private liberal arts college in Claremont, California, about 35 miles east of Los Angeles. We offer a comprehensive curriculum, with 48 majors in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

One of the premier liberal arts colleges in the nation, Pomona is a close-knit and diverse community of accomplished scholars, scientists, entrepreneurs and artists who are passionate about making a difference in the world. There are approximately 1,740 students who come from 63 nations and all 50 U.S. states, as well as the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.

With a student-faculty ratio of 8 to 1, our students work closely with their professors in the classroom, in the lab and in the field. And our location—within an hour of Los Angeles and the mountains, desert and beaches—provides countless opportunities for field study, research and internships.

Number of Students/Period of Study
Pomona College invites one student from Doshisha University to study at Pomona College for the full academic year as a non-degree student.

Selection
Doshisha University will nominate a candidate for study at Pomona in accordance with the following:

• Successful completion of at least two full years of academic work by the beginning of the Pomona College enrollment period.
• Adequate English language preparation, including a minimum TOEFL score of 100 or a minimum IELTS score of 7 overall.
• GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (B average)
• Evidence of
  • a sincere motivation and preparation for the academic program available at Pomona College
  • an interest in taking advantage of the breadth in the curriculum offered by a small, liberal arts college
  • the capacity to adjust to cross-cultural experiences

Academics 
Visiting students will be assigned an appropriate academic adviser and will be provided the same choice in course selection as regular, degree-seeking students, to the extent that the student's academic background and language proficiency permit. Visiting students will enroll in a minimum of two credits at Pomona College each semester. For the remaining two credits, student may enroll in classes taught at Pomona College or one of the other Claremont Colleges (Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Scripps College, or Pitzer College).

An academic transcript for the year will be sent to Doshisha University.

Housing
Visiting students live in an on-campus residence hall for the full academic year.

Orientation
Visiting students will participate in the International Student Orientation as well as Pomona College's New Student Orientation, which includes the Orientation Adventure ​program.
