Academic Program
Students enroll in a full course load at University College Cork (UCC), which assigns credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Pomona awards 0.625 Pomona credits for 5 ECTS credits. A full course load at University College Cork is typically five or six courses each worth 5 or 10 ECTS and totaling 30 ECTS (15 U.S. semester credits; 3.75 Pomona credits).

Students are required to take at least one, preferably two, 3000-level courses. Students should bear in mind that most 3000-level courses have prerequisites and admission to courses is contingent on approval from the relevant UCC department, based on the applicant’s background and experience.

During the fall program, Pomona students are required to enroll in the Early Start Pre-Session program. Students have the option to choose one of five courses, including Archaeology, History, Folklore, Literature, or Music. Pomona students may not enroll in the Management and Marketing course. The intensive three-week course earns 5 U.S. semester credits (1.25 Pomona credits).

Students are required to take at least one course with significant Irish content. (The Early Semester Pre-Session program counts towards this requirement for the fall semester).

Pomona limits courses in dance or music to those with an academic component.

Living Arrangements
IFSA students are housed in University Hall, a complex of student apartments managed by the university. On the River Lee and close to campus, they’re also within easy reach of Cork city center. Students live in apartments in groups of three, four, or five. Students have single bedrooms and share a bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, and living space. The accommodations are self-catered, and Pomona will provide a meal allowance.

Pomona College will cover the standard housing fees. Students who request housing that is outside of the standard offering are responsible for any supplemental fees, which are billed directly to the student. Please select housing options that fit within your budget.

Number of students
IFSA enrolls approximately 5-10 students, selected from a national pool. University enrollment is approximately 22,000 students.
